This morning I feel God impressing on me to sing, sing in the midst of what you are going through, sing. I don't know if it's a challenge you're facing, sickness, rejection or deep discouragement. Sing.
"How can we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land?" Psalm 137:4
We find God's people captured, away from their home, and thinking of of the homes they left behind. They are discouraged, feeling forsaken, and have even hung up their harps as symbols of surrendering their voices, their skilled hands, and desire to celebrate with songs of joy. The songs are gone from their hearts. Questions fill their minds, "How shall we sing?"
Maybe today this is your question?
How can I sing and be joyful in the midst of seeing this situation in my life? How can I rejoice when I can't overcome depression and feeling hopeless? How can I sing a new song when my prayers seem unheard and unanswered? "How can we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land?"
We have a hope. In the midst of every trial, every sorrow, and every set back, God is the God who always comes through. He is our reason for singing.
"You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance." Psalm 32:7
Today is your day to sing! Sing softly or loudly, but sing. Start the singing on your own or with songs you put on in your home or car. But, Sing! The enemies were telling God's people to sing and they took it as, "How can we sing while we are going through this and in front of you!" Sing before your enemies! Declare God's greatness. Shout praises unto the Lord and speak faith!
"Hear this! You kings, Hear this you ruler! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel in song." Judges 5:3
"Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; Make music to our God on the harp." Psalm 147:7
Do you feel like you're in the lion's den? Do you find yourself being thrown into the pit of despair? Are you passing through the fire? Have you felt like the armies of hell have come against you and you're defeated? Psalm 57 reminds us that in the middle of our enemies, awake your praise.
"Wake up my heart, Wake up O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song." Psalm 57:8
The darkness has to run at the mention of Jesus name. Darkness and Praise cannot be together.
"Why are you in despair, oh my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope thou in God, for I shall against praise Him for the help of his countenance." Psalm 42:5
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your guitar or tambourine. Make your own music with your hands and your feet. Put on some music or make your own noise. But, make it! Raise the volume and move those hands and feet as your sing in front of the enemies that tell you, "Sing. What happened? Didn't you use to sing? Can't sing anymore?" Sing, my brothers and sisters, sing and rejoice, declare God's power and goodness in your home, family and situation.
Sing!
